Yesterday was Sunday and instead of being home doing the homey activities .. it was Mother’s Day .. yayyyy.

The day started off with an amazing sunrise, we are metro but the 6am sun, clouds and sky took my breathe away. It lasted for about 15 minutes, enough to grab the camera and shoot like mad until the amazing hues disappeared. Nothing like Mother Nature giving her best today.

Yesterday by total surprise amazing, beautiful flowers arrived from son number Juano. I had no idea as flower sending wasn’t the normal routine in our family. Along with the flowers came a beautiful note and just goes to show all those kids who rail-off in their late teens eventually come back to the love and values you passed onto them as children. There is hope for all you anxious parents out there!

Earlier in the week son number 2 rang to book me in for breakfast or lunch. I hatched a plan the day before and asked to go up to Mt Dandenong so I could buy a pine and also grab a latte in the lovely cafes up there. Surprisingly I was very excited, it had been years and years since I had a Mother’s Day outing and I felt special!  I was ready an hour early in my scarf and coat waiting eagerly.

Sure enough Chay and Alana rolled up and I got the front seat in the Toureg … silly how little things amuse the soul at times lol, and off we went up the mountain. Being Autumn the trees were spectacular. Amazing colors of yellows, rich, dark, pale all shades. And the reds ranged from crimsons, dark reds, bright and flashing oranges. Apricots, peaches and neons and dappled. Gosh it was beautiful.

We rolled through the towns and stopped at some amazing shops. Capital O.M.G. they were surprisingly fantastic treasure troves of the unusual and collectable and definitely the place to be with an unlimited budget. This included a terrific soaps and candles shop ‘Soap Bathecary’ with Aussie made Sohum candles. Just the store layout was a delight and Alana treated me to a scented candle for Mothers Day.

We were slightly ahead of the tourist crowd and noticed a queue waiting for a particular cafe to open called Miss Marples Tea Room and the item on the specials was Belgian Waffles with Mixed Berries and cream … yummy.

Fortunately we squeezed in, it was definitely the place to be!

Yummm they were fabulous mmm … although I would have preferred them hot but the cream was amazingly fantastic, the mixed berry compote spot on and the whole lot not overly sweet. To my surprise we ate our way through this enormous delight and had two fabulous coffees each.

Off we toddled to the Conifer Gardens Nursery, my favorite ever nursery to select a pine. Of all our new garden we had just one pine die during summer, so a replacement was due and I selected an dwarf American White Pine, the needles are lovely and soft to touch and should only grow to about 5′ high.

Finally we headed off home. The day finished chatting to my mother in Brisbane and getting her ready to start her own Etsy site, she was very excited at the idea and I cant wait to see it under way.

What a lovely Mother’s Day and how spoilt was I!?! Loved it, thank-you boys [and Alana], love you both; and to think I called you Heckle and Jeckle last week lol.

ALWAYS THE ARTIST and your MOTHER xox

Love

Dina
