I have to say Autumn is my favourite season everywhere, always. The colours  the different breeze, the fresh nights, the sunny days. Most of all I love the transformation in the garden. Since moving to Melbourne, my greatest delight is watching the Autumn colours slowly appear and transition the whole landscape over a few short months.

Being a beautiful sunny weekend, I grabbed the camera and walked in our own street starting to snap the first colors of Autumn. I gathered my first handful of Autumn leaves to bring home and press, I have been wanting to create a leaf collage for years and now our very own street boasts the wondrous colors available to me.

Liquid Amber

This is one of the first trees to turn … all of a sudden you notice bright yellow trees throughout the landscape early Autumn. They have a 5-pointed leaf and look like a maple, I wouldn’t have known the difference until someone mentioned them to me. Across the street is a magnificent one worthy of a few snaps I took below.

Japanese Maple

We have several in our new garden but the most lovely is the Coral Bark Maple in the back yard. This is its second winter and I cant wait until we build a lovely back patio to really enjoy its amazing colours. The tree is still small and the the garden is far from complete but the leaves had me grabbing the camera over the past couple of weeks and no doubt some of the best is still to come.

Autumn Roses

After surviving the summer sunburn our roses have come back into full bloom. I deliberately chose the orange and red colours for our yard as well as the standard snow white hedge. For some reasons the aphids seem to enjoy autumn also!

Australian natives

Much to my delight the Aussie natives are just starting to bloom. Over the past couple of months the mini banksias have been thick with spindles and now the kangaroo paws are being to cast brightly coloured buds. I can also see the grevilleas starting to build their flower combs, we have a great array of red , orange, burgundy and apricot just waiting for the cooler weather to switch on their bright colours.

Crepe Myrtle

Our little crepe myrtle hasn’t begun to turn yet, its still blooming bright purple flowers late into autumn! So I took a few snaps of the fantastic orange leaves from the one across the road.

My garden plan

OK I have to admit, I love autumn colours so much, I planned my whole garden to give me the best! Not only did I do a plant layout, I also did a super-imposed image of trees in my actual front yard. But it was worth it, look at the lovely images I was able to share with you from my own front yard!

Hope you enjoy autumn as much as I do,

ALWAYS THE ARTIST
