I have decided to start a regular Saturday coffee chat; my musing and sharing session .. every Saturday morning. Ray goes to work, I’m home and usually have time to stop and think in my own quiet time. I love nothing more to grab a coffee and have an online chat or have one of my arty friends pop over and we talk about our current projects.

So here is my Saturday morning coffee time with you!

At my house

Well I have had the kids move in and out, in and still here. Juan arrived the previous Monday to stay for a week while he took time off to hit Soundwaves and then Chay moved in as he has relocated his life from Brisbane.

Until we renovate in another year, this is a 2 bedroom house .. so our art bench, photo room and gym equipment is all packed up and the spare bed is set out! Not cool.

The upside is seeing the boys, now in their mid-twenties, its always a delight to watch their lives progress.

Buck our dog [staffy] is in attention heaven with all the boys. He has the best ‘pat me’ eyes and ‘it’s playtime’ grin .. staffy’s have infectious personalities. As it has been very hot in Melbourne, over 30c for several weeks now, his bursts of energy are limited.

As I try to get into a daily walking routine myself, I have found I am beginning to drag him up the hill on the homeward stretch rather than the other way around.

On the easel

With the kids in the home, the easel has been downsized to the coffee table. Not cool again. So I have a few bits out on a tray .. (which has been pushed aside for some-ones laptop and uni homework) and the office is now the photo-shoot zone for Ray .. so things are crowded and my creative output has been very lean this week as current projects are stacked.

I did manage to finish and mount two beaded flowers for my Black Cockatoo project .. a beaded wattle sprig and a beaded grevillea sprig. The wattle is fantastic but I have made several of these before, the grevillea is average but it was a new design concept and acceptable. I wasn’t happy with the thickness of the sprig however the flower is spot on.

I mounted them laying flat on the wire birds nest I had made and then hung the nest into the project, I am not delighted with it at this stage but they are close to the mark and I need to pull them down and re-configure the layout. A tedious rework but necessary – I will relocate the grevillea and I am making a second smaller wattle sprig to add more density. Always work in progress.

I hope you enjoyed our first Saturday coffee together.

ALWAYS THE ARTIST
