Today I am in beautiful downtown Brisbane having travelled for work. Being a Brisbane girl I still love it’s sub tropical climate and the outdoor environment the city is renowned for.

So today I am experimenting with my modern mobile toys, my new HTC smart phone for photos and my ipad2 for my blog. I have no idea how this is going to look on my website, but here is my very first remote post!

Downtown Brisvegas

I’m not really sure why we nicknamed Brisbane to Brisvegas, someone once said to me because it has sprawling homes and properties due to the Gold Coast boom like VEgas, don’t know. One thing for sure they have really captured its beautiful outdoor climate in the heart of its city mall.

Today is mid winter a terrific 23oC, so I sauntered through the mall taking snaps of the public art. They seemed to have a fetish for shiny organic objects but overall I found the collection a delight.

I started at the casino end where they had these large balls made from .. Food strainers? They were amazingly effective and we were also treated to a bridal photo shoot in front of the historic treasury building.

From there I entered the casino and enjoyed a terrific lunch at Fat Noodle restauant by tv chef Luke Nguyen. The artistic modern decor was well done with a ceiling of woks and chop sticks through to a dragons body twisting up the corridor.

My next step was midway along the Brisbane Mall where the whole mall has been transformed into a rainforest garden setting. Everything added to the experience but I was really impressed with the huge coloured aluminium building face above the Wintergarden centre.

It had been transformed into a thick tangled rainforest including richly coloured butterflies. I found this enormity impressively balanced with a color palette subdued enough not to compete with the cityscape yet intriguing enough to hold the eye of the viewer. Well done the artist studio505!

You can read all about this amazing project here at the Melbourne design awards.

Adding to the theme were metal leaves embedded in the pavement, colourful heliconia flowers in bloom and towering rainforest trees throughout the mall.

My last stop on the way to the hotel was to sit on these brightly coloured deck chairs placed on the various lawns by Brisbane Council thereby adding to the outdoor delight this city has to offer. And finally, up to my apartment where I was greeted with one more sculpture before a last snapshot of the sun, I have to say the cityscape itself does not match the beauty of the interior. Well done Brisbane!

ALWAYS THE ARTIST
