There is a terrific commercial on Melbourne tv at the moment, the teenage son finally moves out of home and guess what .. he returns! Surprise surprise on the parents face as he storms off to his bedroom only to find .. even more surprise, the parents had converted it into their luxury new bathroom.
Well that’s what we have done.
Being kidless, we converted the third bedroom into the luxury bathroom, and the kids have returned! Plus they keep leaving and returning .. what’s with that!
Tips for parents with ageing teenagers
Several friends of our still have their teenagers at high school, so here are my few tips I always share to prepare them:
1. Year 12 at school costs 4 times more than any other year ..
- school formals, schoolies week, school overseas trip
- laptop, ipad, iphone .. isa-sucker
- car lessons, first car, your car crashed
- new job, new wardrobe for new job, new daily wardrobe because school uniforms are no longer required
2. For boys:
- more than one school formal, they take different girls over a couple of years
- only one car crash, the total write-off variety
- lost license during first few years, taxi duties return.
3. For girls:
- clothes, makeup, hair, tans, clothes, makeup, hair, tans
- shoes, shoes, shoes, shoes
- most expensive formal dress ever with most expensive hair, makeup, tan and shoes
- many many small car crashes in your car, in their car, in boyfriends cars.
The new bathroom
So we converted bedroom 3 into the bathroom … it is awesome, huge, resort style and perfect for us mid-life crisis parents. Now Chay and Alana have moved into the tiny spare bedroom whilst they look for an apartment. They are a delight to have around and chat about their lives, and it is good fun watching them squeeze into a 3m x3m cube piled high with clothing, make-up and shoes.
In an upcoming blog I will detail how I went about designing the bathroom, in the meantime please enjoy the bathroom gallery below.
